A Bump in the Night

The computer chirped – an innocent sound that it had made thousands of times before. “Annomaly detected, two hundred kilometers, bearing ten mark three hundred-fourty.” Lieutenant Traekush reported from the tactical post. “We’re right on top of it! Full stop. Yellow Alert Captain to the bridge!” the quick orders came from the watch officer, Lieutenant Gareth.

The anomaly, however, kept growing closer to the ship, expanding like a storm cloud – as if it were specifically reaching for the USS Battle Born. Orders to reverse course came, but to no avail – the strange cloud reached, and enveloped the ship – and then a moment later – was gone.

In the same location of space, but not the same time, nor quite the same actual ‘place’ many of those aboard the now missing vessel turned up somewhere else.

Somewhere just a little darker…
